6.79 updated 5 position according to pro player picks.
from left to right:
Carries , Mid , Offlane(jung), Support(4,Jungle), Support 5 (a.k.a ward whores)
from top to bottom:
Role 1-2 (First pick/ban)
Role 3 (Ocasional pick/ban)
Role 4 (Extremely rarely played)
Role 5-6 (don't pick?)
This is an up to date layout which has 5 sections for all 5 roles in the game.
The heroes at the top of each roll are the most commonly played heroes in that position in the pro scene.
Generally speaking the first 3 rolls of each section are standard picks in pro games, while at the same time the 3rd roll is kind of a buffer because the heroes played in that section aren't played as much as the first 2 rolls.
This means that if you start your pick from left to right you get to pick (Most played - Least played) in pro games. The 4th roll for positions 1,2,4,5 are generally heroes that COULD be effective in a certain situation (dendi pudge or Krobeus mid in a push lineup, or slaradar carry with a dazzle in the team, kotl + pl and so on) and are picked ocasionally but it's really rare and has a big chance of failing(such as tinker or brew mid or a bristle carry).
Everything after that roll is rarely played or is to no use in pro games at this moment or it's still not in captain's mode.
*The reason why doom is between section 3 and 4 is because I feel he is picked way too often and is way too strong to go on the bottom roll with heroes like dark seer and lone druid who are way worse this patch (they aren't bad heroes they just don't feel strong in the current meta). Feel free to change that if it annoys you.
*Many of the heroes can be played in different positions. An example of that would be Windrunner. She can be played as a 2,3,4. In this case I've included the hero to the section that I feel she is most relevant in and where I would usually play it. Feel free to edit the layout if you don't like that.
*Many heroes from the offlane position, aren't actually played offlane and that shouldn't be taken literally. For example, no one plays Centaur or Axe solo offlane, but they might play them in a dual lane on the offlane. For such heroes that are so rarely played, it's hard do give a position. In fact, since the patch 6.79 it's hard to define the offlane as a hardlane anymore so more and more teams are playing dual lanes or un usual heroes there. I leave it to you to think how you will lane your heroes, according to the match up and the individual case.
*Remember, trends change. At the moment it's pretty common to see a clincz or a doom but literally a month and a half ago you could rarely see them in play ,so things change quite fast.
